I guess all the US thought Beijing Olympics was overwhelming since Michael Phelps did incredible efforts getting 8 gold medals for the US and their gymnastic teams has shown the great performance.
What is wrong here is He Kexin and Nastia Liukin got an identical score for uneven bar. However, He, Chinese, got the GOLD medal while Luikin, US, got only the silver one. If you are in the US, you'll know all reporters tried to use all sarcastic words to question this, even title as "WAS SHE--Luikin--ROBBED?"
At first, I was surprise as well since I have no clue what the heck "difficulty" & "execution" are and why on earth they have changed easy to understand system like ?/10. But we all want complication stuffs, aren't we? For example, TOEFL is Test of English as a Foreign Language--exclusively for the US since anywhere else could use something else. Starting from paper-based TOEFL is 550 in total, not thing complex here since it's from all part accumulation. Right is +, Wrong is nothing. Then it's computer-based which was for easier to calculate, but now it's internet-based TOEFL--nothing is related INTERNET here--the score calculation also sucks. Right could be ++, +. Wrong could be 0, -. They all depend on the order. Got it? You guys, US, like complexity--accept it.
Come back to our topic, the change of all this gymnastic score system makes it so confused, but understandable. It's just the sum of 2 parts, but I have no clue what is the maximum score anymore! If anyone know, please share. In order to compare the score:
1. more overall score ("difficulty" + "execution"") win
2. Less deductions win
3. ..... [I don't know anymore. If you know, please share]
It's just like football league point--the world's word--if you have more points, you win. If it's lucky that you have the same points, then goal different will be the judge or something else next to be able to decide who will win really. That's it!!
And He Kexin just got less deduction! It's fair already, no question about that.
Why you guys is still questioning judges and scoring system? You knew all that but pretending that's not fair. It's just unprofessional at all!!
Just ask yourself if Nastia Liukin won. I bet the story will be like WHOOOOOOOOA what an INCREDIBLE performance!!!!!
So, stop whining--keep working harder, your day will come. (I'm not sure if it's going to be soon though since in Olympics I see no way to win China indeed)
